Cook Out
Cook Out Gameplay Demo
My role: Game Designer, QA Tester
Cook Out is a multiplayer analogue card game where players place dish cards and take turns playing cards and trading cards with another player to try to 'Cook' and complete their dishes.

This project was one of the client-briefed projects I did. The client's original brief was to make a game to encourage elderly folks suffering from dementia to intellectually engage with.
My team suggested a slight change to the brief from specifically targeting dementia patients to just regular elderly folks as the pandemic hit during this projects development cycle and acquiring dementia patients as play testers was more difficult compared to senior citizens.

I was the lead Game Designer of this project and decided on an analogue game as we felt that it would have been more familiar to the elderly compared to a digital game.

This project taught me the importance of nailing down the target audience and also choosing to make decision that will exclude certain groups of people for the sake of making a good game. The phrase "A design for everyone is a design for no one" really applies here as if we chose to still include dementia patients or senior citizens with mobility/dexterity issues, my team would have more issues designing an analogue game.

The cards were designed to be as simple as possible by containing only visual so that there would be no issues in readability or visibility as our target audience of senior citizens may have vision impairments that prevent them from reading any text easily
